Do you bank with Suntrust?

Mon Mar 30, 2009, 3:28 PM
My husband wrote this. My bank is full of crooks.

My experience with SunTrust bank by Brian

Today, March 30, 2009, Sarah discovered that we had a UAF fee on our account. Apparently this stands for an unavailable funds fee. On March 17, we were charged an UAF fee of $70 because 2 items were paid for a combined $112.65…even though we had $391.88 in the account. SunTrust claims that because we had pending transactions, our available balance was much lower. Even though the available balance (including what was “;pending”;) showed plenty of money for the transaction online. However, the so-called pending transactions weren’t even paid until the 19th. So 2 things right off the bat. 1) SunTrust knowing that the check card had been used LIED about the available balance. 2) If that money was promised to a retailer but not paid till the 19th, they are knowingly withholding money from a merchant that SunTrust is probably gaining interest on in some way, shape, or form.

So today I went to the teller at the window at the Publix location at the corner of Pleasant Hill and Club Dr. He got his supervisor and his supervisor informed me that the deposit that i made on the 17th (which had it posted on the 17th would make this whole thing moot) was done after cutoff-5pm. I told him that a SunTrust representative had told me cutoff was 6pm. He told me that is on Fridays.

I said what if the deposit was cash. He said it wouldn’t matter, cash and check are the same…then came the following exchange which shows the incredible stupidity of a company.

Me: I’m really thinking about closing my account and taking my business elsewhere if these fees aren’t reversed.

Him: Well, I can’t do anything, it’s not a bank error.

Me: So you’re willing to lose a customer over $70?

Him: Well, if you open a savings account to use for overdraft protection, we can waive one of them.

Me-Thinking: I thought he said he couldn’t do anything?

Me: Why would I want to open another account since you treated me so poorly on this one?

Him: (Blank stare)

Me: Let me ask you this…if I had made a deposit in cash, would it have mattered?

Me-Thinking: I know part of this deposit that i’ve just made is cash and I know the available balance online right now is going to show the cash part as being available.

Him: No, cash and checks are all the same. Once cash is deposited you can use your card, but it won’t be used to pay for an item presented.

Me-Thinking: Okay asshole, i’m sorry but here it goes…

Me: So let me get this straight, let say right now I had $0 in my account. And I came in and brought a cash deposit of 1 Million Dollars after the cutoff. I could go over to that register tonight…right now… and buy $500,000 worth of groceries with no problem.

Him: Yes, because it’s after you made the deposit.

Me: But if I had a $50 check that I had wrote earlier in the day and it came through that night, you would still charge me a fee?

(At this time i’m getting loud and notice that the Publix security guard is standing right behind me)

Him: Yes.

Me: But then you’d refund the fee because I was a million dollar account right?

Him: No, because it wasn’t a bank error.

Me: You’d charge a million dollar account a $35 fee?

Him: Absoultley.

Me: You’d lose a million dollar account over $35?

Him: If it’s not a bank error.

Me: If you’re not going to treat a million dollar account with good customer service. I’ll be in next week to close my account.

By the way, on my computer right now…i made a deposit of $122…$50 of it was cash, it shows in my available balance. Damn Lies.
